Awareness and training regarding UAVs are becoming increasingly important, especially for those who are on the front lines every day, providing services and protecting citizens.
It was with great pleasure that the Patras Drone Academy held an informational demonstration for the Volunteer Firefighters of the Agrinio Volunteer Fire Department (EDA) in the area surrounding the Church of Saint Demetrius.

During the meeting, the current capabilities of drones in supporting the work of Civil Protection and volunteer groups were presented, with an emphasis on applications such as:
- the monitoring of forest areas,
- the timely detection of fire outbreaks,
- thermal imaging,
- search and rescue,
- assessing damage following natural disasters,
- the provision of real-time imagery to operations centers.
At the same time, reference was made to the current regulatory framework of EASA and the Civil Aviation Authority, to pilot training requirements, as well as to the procedures for the safe preparation and execution of a flight. Of particular interest was the hands-on demonstration of the equipment and capabilities offered by modern unmanned aircraft systems in supporting critical missions.

During the demonstration, the DJI Matrice 4T was showcased, the advanced drone owned by the Patras Drone Academy, equipped with high-resolution cameras and a thermal sensor, providing capabilities for surveillance, thermal imaging, and real-time image transmission.
Volunteer firefighters had the opportunity to learn about the system’s operational capabilities in scenarios such as:
- early detection of fire outbreaks,
- surveillance of forested and remote areas,
- support for search and rescue operations,
- assessment of damage following natural disasters,
- strengthening the operational profile of first-response teams.
