N. Dendias: We are creating the second drone production unit in Greece

The second Drones Production Unit, category 1, FPV (First-Person View), is created in our country at the 316 Technician Area Workshop. A unit that will have the capacity to manufacture 1,000 drones per month and will give our country’s Armed Forces the capability that the new era demands. It is a step, an important step to move forward.

This was stressed by the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, who was accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, in the presence of the commander of the 1st Army “Achilles”, Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos and the commander of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace, Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos, visited today, on the occasion of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the 316 Technical Area Workshop in the Archers of Xanthi and the headquarters of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace.

As announced, during his visit to the 316 Technical Area Workshop, Mr. Dendias listened to traditional Christmas carols of Thrace and Corfu by the Support Brigade’s choir, while he had the opportunity to tour the premises of the Workshop, to talk and exchange wishes with the officers and privates.

The Unmanned Aircraft Systems Department (UAS) was developed and completed in a short period of time at the 316 Technical Area Workshop in Xanthi, substantially enhancing the operational capabilities of the Army.

The Department has the capability to manufacture SFEs, with production of parts through 3D printing technologies, as well as the assembly and integrated interconnection of their electronic and electromechanical systems.

At the same time, the possibility of direct repairs of electronic and mechanical subsystems, inspection and control of the equipment to be used by the units and personnel of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace is provided.

The Department also supports the installation and configuration of the software of the SFEs, tailored to the requirements of each mission and has the capability to provide specialised training to the staff operating them.

In addition, the 316 Area Technician Workshop has a Mobile SFE Construction Workshop, which is a self-contained and fully functional mobile unit for construction, repair, adjustment and testing of SFEs in the field.

It is a system of Greek design and construction, similar to that of the 306 Telecommunications Base Factory, which can be moved and deployed in advanced areas in the theatre of operations of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace. It is energy self-sufficient and provides the capability to produce spare parts and spare parts directly in the field of operations.

At the end of the visit, Mr Dendias wished a happy birthday and thanked the executives “for the services they offer to the country”.

On Thrace, he stressed that it is a “region of huge geopolitical importance”, which constitutes “the border of Greece and Europe, a very important region for us”.

Subsequently, the Minister of National Defence went to the headquarters of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace.

In the presence of the mayor of Xanthi, Stratos Kontos, the band of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace sang the Christmas carols to Mr. Dendias.

Afterwards, the Minister exchanged greetings with the staff of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace.

During his visit, Mr. Dendias visited the Holy Metropolis of Xanthi and Peritheri, where he met with His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon, with whom he exchanged greetings for Christmas and the New Year.
