Awareness and training regarding UAVs are becoming increasingly important, especially for those who are on the front lines every day, providing services and protecting citizens.<\/p>\n

It was with great pleasure that the Patras Drone Academy<\/strong> held an informational demonstration for the Volunteer Firefighters of the Agrinio Volunteer Fire Department (EDA) in the area surrounding the Church of Saint Demetrius.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the current capabilities of drones in supporting the work of Civil Protection and volunteer groups were presented, with an emphasis on applications such as:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • the monitoring of forest areas,<\/li>\n
  • the timely detection of fire outbreaks,<\/li>\n
  • thermal imaging,<\/li>\n
  • search and rescue,<\/li>\n
  • assessing damage following natural disasters,<\/li>\n
  • the provision of real-time imagery to operations centers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    At the same time, reference was made to the current regulatory framework of EASA and <\/strong>the Civil Aviation Authority<\/strong>, to pilot training requirements, as well as to the procedures for the safe preparation and execution of a flight. Of particular interest was the hands-on demonstration of the equipment and capabilities offered by modern unmanned aircraft systems in supporting critical missions. <\/p>\n

    During the demonstration, the DJI Matrice 4T<\/strong> was showcased, the advanced drone owned by the Patras Drone Academy, equipped with high-resolution cameras and a thermal sensor, providing capabilities for surveillance, thermal imaging, and real-time image transmission.<\/p>\n

    Volunteer firefighters had the opportunity to learn about the system’s operational capabilities in scenarios such as:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • early detection of fire outbreaks,<\/li>\n
    • surveillance of forested and remote areas,<\/li>\n
    • support for search and rescue operations,<\/li>\n
    • assessment of damage following natural disasters,<\/li>\n
    • strengthening the operational profile of first-response teams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
