Nowadays, it is no longer enough to have only a basic A1-A3\/A2 pilot licence. Many jobs require <strong>flying in more demanding environments<\/strong>, close to people, in urban areas or beyond the operator&#8217;s line of sight the B-VLOS.  <\/p>\n<p>It is for these cases that the <strong>Standard Scenarios (STS-01 &amp; STS-02)<\/strong> were created, which today constitute the <strong>basic specialisation of the Special Category<\/strong> at European level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Patras Drone Academy<\/strong>, is an EASA certified training center, and offers comprehensive training and certification in <strong>STS-01 &amp; STS-02<\/strong>, fully meeting the needs of the modern professional drone pilot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What<\/strong> <strong>is<\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong><strong> Standard Scenarios (STS) ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Standard Scenarios are <strong>predefined operational flight scenarios<\/strong>, designed by EASA to allow <strong>more complex flights<\/strong> without requiring a full SORA study every time.<\/p>\n<p>Simply put:<\/p>\n<p>STS allow the professional to perform demanding flights, as long as they are properly trained and follow specific procedures. They are the <strong>intermediate level<\/strong> between the Open Category and highly specialised operations with SORA. <\/p>\n<p><strong>What STS-01 covers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STS-01<\/strong> is about flying:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>in <strong>urban or residential areas<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>close to people<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>with increased safety requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is the scenario most often used for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>building inspections<\/li>\n<li>topographical<\/li>\n<li>photo &amp; video shoots in cities<\/li>\n<li>technical works<\/li>\n<li>business missions in areas where third parties are present<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The STS-01 requires:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>correct theoretical knowledge<\/li>\n<li>excellent understanding of procedures<\/li>\n<li>discipline in flight<\/li>\n<li>and responsibility in decision-making<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What STS-02 covers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STS-02<\/strong> is about flying:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>out of visual contact (B-VLOS)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>at longer distances<\/li>\n<li>with increased operational requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is mainly used in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>mapping of large areas<\/li>\n<li>control &amp; supervision<\/li>\n<li>line and infrastructure inspections<\/li>\n<li>long-duration missions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The STS-02 is considered <strong>an advanced qualification<\/strong> and is aimed at operators who want to work professionally on larger scale projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why are STS now necessary?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The market for drones has matured.
